In a right-angled triangle, if one side (other than the hypotenuse) and an angle are given, we can still use the tangent ratio to calculate the other side.
Example 2.3.1:
Calculate the value of x in the diagrams below

Solution
tan θ = \( \frac {Opposite}{Adjacent} \)
tan 40° = \( \frac {x}{12} \)
