- Meaning of Rate

A rate is the ratio between two related quantities of different kinds of units. In describing the units of rate, the word ‘per’ is used to separate the units of the two measurements used to calculate the rate.

Example rate of fuel Consumption = \( \frac{Distance \: travelled}{Amount \: of fuel \: used} \)

A rate of ₦45 per day (₦45/day) means the amount is ₦45 for a day or one day.

### Example 5.2.1:

A car travels 200 km in 4 hours. What is its rate in km/h?
