Recreational activities fall into two categories, indoor and outdoor recreational
activities.

Outdoor Recreation:

Outdoor recreation is any individual or group activity performed outside the confinement of buildings thereby providing exposure to nature.

Examples are:

1. Adventure racing is a team sport involving teams of two – four people using only a map and compass to navigate their way over an unmarked course.
backpacking
2. Backpacking is the outdoor recreation of carrying gear on one’s back while hiking for more than a day. It is often an extended journey and may involve camping outdoors.

3. Cycling is the use of cycles for transport, recreation, exercise or sport.
canoeing
4. Canoeing is an outdoor activity which involves paddling a canoe with a single-bladed paddle.
caving
5. Caving, also known as potholing, involves exploring underground through networks of tunnels and passageways, which can be natural or artificial (manmade).
golfing
6. Golf is an outdoor activity/sport where players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible.
fishing
7. Fishing is a popular outdoor recreation activity.
hiking
8. Hiking is an outdoor recreational activity that involves going on long walks. Hiking is one of the best ways to get exercise.
dog walking
9. Dog walking is an outdoor physical activity that provides a way to exercise and relieve stress.
horseback riding
10. Horseback riding is an outdoor activity that involves riding a horse for purposes such as recreation, work, transportation, etc.
kayaking
11. Kayaking is a fun outdoor recreational activity. It involves the use of a kayak, a narrow boat with a double-blade paddle to move on water.

12. Photography is the art of capturing light with a camera, usually via a digital sensor or film, to create an image.
Mountaineering 1
13. Mountaineering is a set of outdoor activities that involve climbing mountains.

14. Gardening is a great outdoor activity. It is the activity of tending and cultivating a garden, especially as a pastime.
picknicking
15. Picnicking is an excursion or outing with food usually provided by members of the group and eaten in the open.

Other outdoor recreational activities include excursions, skiing, rafting, jogging, running, hunting, etc.

Indoor Recreation:

Indoor recreational activities are activities undertaken under the roof of a building or in the comfort of our homes.

Examples are:

Playing board games (Ludo, Chess, Draught, etc.)

Other indoor recreational activities include singing, knitting, baking, etc.
