  • Rules of Pole Vault

1. A competitor fails if he knocks down the crossbar.

2. If he/she makes three runs without completing a vault a competitor also fails.

3. If he/she lifts himself from the ground and fails to clear the bar, this counts as an unsuccessful attempt.

4. It counts as a failure If he/she passes under the bar.

5. If the competitor changes the grip after leaving the ground, it’s a failure.

6. There is no jump if the jumper touches the pole when the pole is falling towards the crossbar or uprights and is likely to displace them.

7. Wearing gloves is not allowed.

8. A competitor is charged with an unsuccessful attempt if a trial is not carried to completion or passed within two minutes after being called unless excused to participate in other events by the event judge.

9. The weight of each competitor verified by the coach must be recorded in the scoring form next to their name.

10. The height to start vaulting is determined by the official.

11. Three consecutive failures disqualify a competitor.

12. A maximum of three trials is allowed at any height.

13. The planting box must be checked properly to make sure that it is free from any foreign substance.
