Cult activities have many negative consequences. These consequences cut across the individual, family and the society. These include:

1. Loss of Lives and Properties: Due to the violence involved in the activities of cultism, ‘most often people’s lives and properties are destroyed and lost’.

2. Break Down of Law and Order: During cult activities, especially when there are clashes between cult members, there is usually a breakdown of law and order because the members act without regard for their environment and others. These clashes result in the breaking of rules and regulations and a disregard for authority.

3. Disruption in Education: Cultism affects and disrupts educational and academic progress especially when schools have to shut down for long periods of time.

4. Moral Decadence: Moral decadence is a fall or reduction in the moral standard of society. It is a collapse in upholding our societal values, beliefs, norms and ethical standards. Cultism leads to moral decadence.

5. Negative Image: There will be negative effects on the image of the institutions and country as a whole. Parents will avoid sending their children to the university or school, and tourists will not be interested in visiting the particular state or country, where cultism is prevalent.
