How to Report an Experiment:

Reporting and record-keeping are very important in scientific studies. In reporting an experiment, the following pattern is used;

i. Date of the Experiment: The date the experiment was carried out.

ii. Aim/Purpose of Experiment: A short heading stating the purpose of the experiment.

iii. Apparatus/Materials Required: A list of all materials used.

iv. Method/Procedure: A stepwise/explanation of what was done and the precautions taken.

v. Observation: All changes that occurred during the experiment are recorded in this section.

vi. Conclusion: The findings/results and observations are used to summarize the experiment. Generalization is also done at this point.

Key Points in Reporting an Experiment:

The following pattern is used in reporting an experiment:

  • Date: Date the experiment was carried out.
  • Aim: why you carried out the experiment.
  • Apparatus: the instruments used in carrying out the experiment.
  • Method: the way an experiment was carried out.
  • Observation: record all changes, check whether the result is positive or negative.
  • Conclusion: Summarize findings/results.
