  • Glycolysis (The Oxidation of Glucose to Pyruvate)
  • Krebs Cycle/ Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle / Citric Acid Cycle
  • Summary

What is Aerobic Respiration?

Aerobic Respiration is the breakdown of food substances in the presence of oxygen to release energy. Carbon dioxide and water are released as waste products.

\( \scriptsize \underset{Glucose}{C_6H_{12}O_6} \: + \: \underset{Oxygen}{6O_2} \: \overset{enzymes}{\rightarrow} \: \underset{Carbon \:dioxide}{6CO_2} \: + \: \underset{Water}{6H_2O} \: + \: energy \)

The breakdown of glucose involves enzymes and passes through several pathways to produce energy. These pathways are glycolysis and citric acid cycle or Krebs cycle.
