The digestive tract is a tube that runs through the whole length of the body. It consists of the mouth, pharynx, oesophagus, crop, gizzard, intestine, and anus. Soil is taken in through the mouth where it passes into the pharynx which contracts and relaxes, forcing food through the oesophagus, into a temporary store called the crop, and then into the muscular and thick-walled gizzard.
