Desert Biome
Desert Biome

The Desert biome occurs north and south of the equator, between latitudes 15º and 30º.

Examples are Arabian, Californian, Australian, Namibian, and African deserts.

Characteristics of Deserts:

1. Rainfall is low and irregular with a mean annual rainfall of less than 25mm.

2. Temperature is low at night but very high during the day.

3. Relative humidity is low.

4. Strong wind and intense sunlight characterise this biome.

5. Surface water is scarce.

6. Common plants include Cactus, Date palms, Acacia and grasses.

7. Animals like Camel, known to conserve water are common.
