c. List the different vertebra and their location in a mammal.

Answer:

Cervical vertebra– Neck

Thoracic vertebra – Chest

Lumbar vertebra – Upper abdominal region

Caudal vertebra – Tail region

 

d. State three distinguishing features of a thoracic vertebra and a cervical vertebra.

Answer:

i.  Distinguishing features of a thoracic vertebra

  • A long neutral spine that points backward
  • Large centrum
  • Presence of tubercular facets for articulation with the rib.

ii. Distinguishing features of a cervical vertebra

  • Small centrum
  • Short neutral spine
  • Large neural canal
