- Gases Collected Over Water
Dalton’s law of partial pressure is also used in correcting the pressures of gases collected over water.
If a gas is collected over water, it becomes saturated with water vapour and the total pressure becomes:
PTotal = Pgas + Pwater vapour
The effective pressure of a dry gas can be calculated by subtracting the saturated vapour pressure of water from the total pressure.
