Amorphous carbon refers to carbon that does not have a crystalline structure. They are non-crystalline forms of carbon.

They include wood charcoal, sugar charcoal, animal charcoal, lamp black coke and coal.

Wood Charcoal:

Wood charcoal is made by burning wood in a limited supply of air. It is a light, porous, brittle, black solid and good adsorbent.

Uses of Wood Charcoal:

1. It is a good adsorbent; hence, it is used in gas masks for absorbing poisonous gases.

2. Used in the purification of noble gases.
