Topic Content:
- Producer Gas
- Water Gas
The two fuels from Coke are producer gas and water gas.
Producer Gas:
It is prepared by passing steam of air through red hot coke. The oxygen in the air oxidizes the coke to carbon (IV) oxide with the liberation of heat while the Nitrogen is unchanged.
C(s) + O2(g) → CO2(g) + heat
The carbon (IV) oxide is reduced by hot coke to carbon (II) oxide.
