  • Uses of Carbon (IV) Oxide
Carbon (IV) Oxide also known as Dry Ice
Carbon (IV) Oxide, also known as Dry Ice

1. Carbon (IV) oxide is used in fire extinguishers because it does not support combustion. Being heavier than air, it envelopes the burning material and cuts off the oxygen supply.

2. Solid carbon (IV) oxide i.e dry ice is used as a refrigerant. The solid carbon (IV) Oxide can be changed to a gaseous state and used in cooling the refrigerators. It is called dry ice because it sublimes readily without forming a liquid.
