1. Establishing Contact: Contact should be established between business partners through telephone, advertising, visiting foreign stands during trade fairs and exhibitions, personal visitation, etc.

2. Letter of Enquiry: This is the act of making inquiry if the products needed are available.

3. Quotation/Price list: This is a reply sent by the importer in response to letter of inquiry.

4. Indent: If the Importer is Satisfied with the response, he then places or sends an indent (Order) to the exporter.

5. Payment for the goods: Arrangement for the payment of goods can be made through mail transfer, telegraphic mail transfer, etc.

6. Shipment of the Goods: On completion of the form in ‘m’ through which the bank issues foreign exchange to the value of the goods purchased, the arrangement of shipment of goods to the destination will commence on the receipt of a letter of credit from the importer’s bank.

7. Identifying a Carrier: the exporter commences shipment to the country of destination through the shipping company.

8. Clearing of Goods: on the arrival of the goods, the shipping company will ensure the goods are assessed and necessary duties paid.

9. Warehousing: On carrying all the necessary procedures, the goods are taken to the warehouse where it is stored.
