  • Synonyms as Words Nearly Similar in Meaning

In our previous lesson (second term), we defined synonyms as words that are similar in meaning. For instance, the word start has the same meaning as begin and commence. We also noted that very few synonyms are absolutely identical in meaning. Especially when we try seemingly identical synonyms in context, many of such words actually show that they are not identical. For example, the word weary is synonymous with exhausted and very tired. Suppose you were asked to replace the word weary in the following sentence with a synonym.
