There are four types of sentences. These are simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex. In this lesson and the next, we will be studying the complex sentence. However, for us to be able to understand the complex sentence, or any other sentence type for that matter, we must first understand how clauses are classified.

Classification of Clauses:

Clauses are classified into two, namely, subordinate (dependent) clause and main (independent, principal) clause. Both clauses function as parts of a sentence.
