Rainfall refers to the water droplets that fall in liquid form as rain from the Atmosphere to the Earth's surface. Rain is the liquid form of precipitation, other forms of precipitation are: snow and ice (which are solid) and fog and dew (which are gaseous).

Measurement of Rainfall using a Rain Gauge:

A Rain Gauge is made up of a copper collection can and a glass bottle with a copper funnel - the long stem of the funnel is in the glass bottle. These instruments are placed in a cylindrical copper (meter) container. The copper funnel is located on the top of the cylindrical copper (meter) container so it fits well into the glass jar in the collecting can. Also, there is a graduated Measuring Cylinder for taking readings.
