(a) State

Answer:

A state is otherwise known as a country in government. It means a group of people who lives in a well-defined territory controlled by a government that is independent.

(b) Nation

Answer:

A nation is a group of people who share the same history, language, culture, and descent.

(c) Society

Answer:

A society is a group of people who share the same ideology and goal with rules and regulations guiding its conduct.

 

2 (a) Define society

Answer:

A society is a group of people who share the same ideology and goal with rules and regulations guiding its conduct.

(b) What are the features of society?

Answer:

(i) It is controlled by rules/regulations, norms, conventions, and customs.

(ii) It applies sanctions on its members as a means of ensuring discipline.

(iii) It applies the use of force to ensure compliance with rules, norms, and customs.

(iv) The rules and regulations of society are binding on all residents.

(v) Membership of a society is voluntary.

(vi) Society is permanent in nature.

 

3. Differentiate between state and nation.

Answer:

  • A state may be larger than the nation for example Nigeria as a state is bigger than the nations within it.
  • A state may be smaller than the nation, for instance, the Saudi State is smaller than the Arabian nation.
  • Members of a nation may be found in different states i.e. Yoruba nationals are found in other neighbouring countries close to Nigeria.
