Merits of Unitary System:
(i) Unitary system of government is not expensive to operate.
(ii) It facilitates quick decision-making.
(iii) It promotes an even and uniform development.
(iv) It promotes cohesive administration.
(v) The constitutionA constitution is a set of fundamental rules that determine how a country or state is run. More can be amended easily.
(vi) This system promotes political stability.
Demerits of Unitary System:
(i) It may promote dictatorship as political power is concentrated on the central government.
(ii) The majority groups may marginalize the minority party.
(iii) It may not be effective for countries with a small geographical territory.
(iv) The government is far away from the people.
(v) The rate of economic development will be very slow.
(vi) The central government will be overloaded with responsibilities.
