Tragedy:
This is a play in which the flaw or weakness of the protagonistthe leading character or one of the major characters in a play, film, novel, etc. More leads to his tragic death. It is usually regarded as the opposite of comedy because its atmosphere is often serious and sorrowful as it ends unhappily with death.
However, such unhappy endings might not necessarily be the death of the protagonist. In some cases, the protagonist is brought to ruin or suffers extreme sorrow, especially as a consequence of his tragic flaw (moral weakness or mistake). e.g. Macbeth by William Shakespeare.
