Adah Obi:

Adah is the protagonist of the novel. She is a twenty-year-old mother of four. The novel captures her life from childhood to marriage and divorce. The odds have been against her from birth. She demonstrates that nothing can stop a determined young girl on her way to success. Pa believes she is a reincarnation of his mother who had vowed to come back after her death. For this reason, Pa accords her some respect.

Adah endures a difficult and hostile childhood. This does not deter her as she wants a proper education which she will use later to triumph over her setbacks. She achieves her elementary, high school and tertiary education through her doggedness, focus and determination.

After witnessing the celebration of Lawyer Nweze from the United Kingdom by the Ibuza Community, Adah dreams of traveling to the United Kingdom. She cleverly affiances herself to Francis Obi in order for her to have enough independence to realize her dreams. She assists Francis in travelling to England and later succeeds in travelling to join Francis in England.

When Adah gets married and has children,
