  • Meaning of Direct Variation

What is Direct Variation?

Two or more related quantities are said to vary directly if as one increases the other increases or if one decreases, the other decreases e.g. “C varies directly as P” is written as:

\( \scriptsize C \propto P \; or \; C = KP \)

Where K is a constant. The symbol \( \scriptsize \propto \) mean “varies with” or “is proportional to”

When the value of the constant k is known then; a relationship is established

for example K = \( \frac {1}{4}\)  , thus
