Need for Transportation:

In small unicellular organisms, the surface area to volume ratio is large. Diffusion is sufficient to transport materials between the cell and its environment.

As organisms increase in size, simple diffusion is not enough to transport materials from the environment to the cell. 

Hence, the need for a transportation system. In animals, the transport medium is blood which transports substances within the blood
