- Structure of the Heart
The heart is a muscular pumping organ. It is roughly the size of a man’s closed fist. The heart is enclosed in a pericardial sac.
The mammalian heart is divided into four chambers. The right and the left atria (single. atrium), are the upper chambers, and the right and left ventricles are the lower chambers.
A central wall known as the septum separates the right and left sides of the heart.
