Topic Content:

  • Functions of the Kidney
    • Ultrafiltration
    • Selective Reabsorption

The kidneys perform the function of excretion in two phases:

(i) Ultrafiltration
(ii) Selective reabsorption

Ultrafiltration:

nephron
The urinary tubule or nephron

Blood, containing waste products, enters the kidney from the renal artery. The blood passes into the Glomeruli in the Bowman’s capsule. The combination of the Bowman’s capsule and Glomerulus make up the Renal corpuscle (or Malpighian body) which is the blood-filtering component of the nephron of the kidney.
