7. Reversible Reaction:
A reversible reaction is a reaction which can be made to proceed in either direction under suitable conditions.
\( \scriptsize A \: + \: B \leftrightharpoons C \: + \: D \)
The symbol \( \leftrightharpoons \)is a reversibility sign
Example:
[a] Action of Steam on red-hot iron
\( \scriptsize 3Fe_{(s)} \: + \: 4H_2O_{(g)} \leftrightharpoons Fe_3O_4 \: + \: 4H_{2(g)} \)
[b] Water and Steam exists in equilibrium at boiling
