Ammonia is a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen with the formula NH3 and a very important chemical in chemistry.

Laboratory Preparation of Ammonia:

Ammonia is prepared in the laboratory by heating an ammonium salt with slaked lime [Ca(OH)2] or a strong alkali e.g. sodium hydroxide. Slaked lime is preferred because it is cheap and not deliquescent like other caustic alkalis.
