- Meaning of Hydrocarbon
Hydrocarbons are organic compounds containing carbon and hydrogen only. They are the simplest form of organic compounds and have a general formula CxHy, where x and y are positive whole numbers.
The homologous series of hydrocarbons are; Alkanes, Alkenes and Alkynes. The simplest aromatic hydrocarbon is benzene.
