- Laboratory Preparation of Nitrogen(IV) Oxide
Nitrogen(IV) oxide, NO2, is a yellowish-brown liquid in its compressed form or reddish-brown gas. It is denser than air. It is a major atmospheric pollutant that absorbs ultraviolet radiation.
Laboratory Preparation of Nitrogen(IV) Oxide:
Nitrogen(IV) oxide is prepared in the laboratory by heating lead(II) trioxonitrate(V), Pb(NO3)2 strongly. The Pb(NO3)2 decomposes to give nitrogen(IV) oxide, PbO, and O2.
