There are crystalline and amorphous allotropes of sulphur.
1. Crystalline Sulphur:
Sulphur occurs in two crystalline forms: rhombic sulphur and monoclinic sulphur.
a. Rhombic Sulphur:
Free sulphur exists as rhombic sulphur in nature. This is the form of sulphur stable at temperatures below 96°C. Crystals of this allotrope of sulphur are bright and octahedral. They consist of an S8 ring of atoms.
