Physical Properties of Tetraoxosulphate(VI) Acid:

1. Tetraoxosulphate(VI) acid is a colourless, viscous oily liquid.

2. It is very corrosive and causes severe burns when it comes in contact with human skin.

3. It has a density of 1.84 gcm-3.

4. It has a boiling point of 338°C.

5. It has a strong affinity for water dissolving exothermically.

6. It is a hygroscopic substance.

Chemical Properties of Tetraoxosulphate(VI) Acid:

Action as an Acid:

In dilute solution, tetraoxosulphate(VI) acid is a strong dibasic acid. In an aqueous solution, it ionizes completely to form H+ and SO42-. It neutralizes bases to form salts and water.

H2SO4(aq) → 2H+(aq) + SO42-(aq)
