This occurs when people communicate in written forms. This is the application of a group of alphabetical symbols of the language chosen to convey the message to the receiver. It provides permanent records as information are documented.

Advantages of Written Communication:

1. It provides permanent records.

2. It removes the necessity for personal contact.

3. The receivers can read the messages as often as they want.

4. It is more reliable than oral communication.

Disadvantages of Written Communication:

1. It takes time to prepare.

2. It can be expensive to produce written messages.

3. It creates maintenance problems in terms of space, as bulky files and piles of paper are used.

4. Sender is not sure whether his message has been received or not.
