Quartiles are the value that divides a given distribution into four equal parts, or quarters, of more or less equal size. It provides information about both the centre and the spread of the data.

Knowing the lower and upper quartile provides information on how big the spread is and if the dataset is skewed toward one side.

The four equal parts of a quartile include:

a. First Quartile Q1.
