A suffix is a letter or a group of letters that is added at the end of a word to form a new word. There are many suffixes in English. Suffixes do not change meaning as prefixes do, but they change the part of speech to which a word belongs.

Study the following examples.

-ly        –        adverb        ending

friend             –                  friendly

quick             –                  quickly

sharp             –                  sharply

angry             –                  angrily

-ful, -less, -al, -able, -y, -arian, etc
