A river system, which includes the main river and its tributaries, may develop certain patterns based on the shape of its basin and the type of underlying rock. The types of drainage patterns include:
1. Dendritic Drainage Pattern: In this type, the tributaries (called the subsequent rivers ) join the main river (called the consequent river ) at an oblique angle. It has a tree-like structure, resembling branches of a tree. It commonly develops on uniform or homogenous rock surfaces.
