(i) Recruitment and Appointment of Civil Servants: The Civil Service Commission recruit and appoint qualified citizens to the vacant positions in the civil service through competitive, written examination.

(ii) The commission transfers senior officers into the civil service. The transfer can be inter-service transfer or inter-class transfer within the same service.

(iii) It states guidelines on appointment, promotion, and discipline of Civil Servants.

(iv) It advises the government on matters pertaining to filling top Public Offices and policy formulation.

(v) It entertains matters on disciplining of errant Civil Servants, especially in serious cases. Some of the cases may lead to dismissal.

(vi) It promotes Civil Servants of the directorate through competitive promotion interview results of subordinate officers.

(vii) It entertains appeals on appointment, promotion, and discipline of officers.
