- Efficiency & Friction in Machines
The efficiency of a machine is always less than 100% as a result of energyEnergy is the ability to do work. Energy exists in several forms such as heat, kinetic or mechanical energy, light, potential energy, and electrical energy. Units of Energy: The SI unit... More dissipated by the presence of friction and moving parts of the engine. Also, some of this energy is converted to heat and sound in moving parts.
Friction is an opposing force between two surfaces in contact moving over one another.
Types of Friction:
There are two types of friction namely;
1. Static Friction / Limiting Friction: This is the maximum force that must be overcome for a body to just start moving over a surface.
