When a liquid is subjected to heat, the molecules acquire more energy and move faster within the liquid. As more energy is supplied, more molecules acquire enough energy with which they escape as a vapour through the surface of the liquids.

At a particular point, the liquid starts boiling as bubbles are being produced, and the liquid is converted to vapour. This occurs at the standard atmospheric pressure and this point is called the boiling point.
