Formation of Images on the Retina:

First, the light rays from the object pass through the cornea, as it does it is bent or refracted onto the lens. As the light passes through the lens, it is refracted again and finally arrives at the retina where an image is formed.

how images are formed

The image is inverted when it arrives at the retina but gets turned around by the brain. For this to happen the image needs to travel as impulses along the optic nerve and enter the brain’s occipital lobe. When it gets there it regains its perspective.
