Meaning of Health:

Health is defined as a state of alertness, and freedom from ill health, accompanied by unhindered growth and productivity of an animal. If an animal’s physiological processes are functioning normally, the farm animal is described as being healthy.

A healthy animal should eat, drink and sleep well and regularly. It should be bright in manner and its posture should be normal and easy. The various natural functions such as breathing, maintenance and normal body temperature and desire to mate, the ability to produce and the excretion of sweat, saliva, dung and urine will be normal in healthy animals.

Signs of Good Health in Farm Animals:

Signs of good health in farm animals are:

  • Contentment.
  • Alertness.
  • Eating with relish and cudding by ruminants.
  • Sleek coat.
