Prevention of Animal Diseases:

The common methods of preventing animal diseases are as follows:

  • Good Feeding: Animals should be properly fed to make them resistant to disease attacks.
  • Quarantine: This is a situation in which new stock brought to the farm is separated from the animals originally on the farm for a period of about three weeks. This is done to detect infected animals which are discarded.
  • Inoculation: This is developing resistance to disease by the mild introduction of disease germs into an animal. This helps the animals to resist infection in future.
  • Vaccination: Farm animals should be vaccinated at the right time to help combat the invasion of pathogenic organisms.
  • Hygiene: Animal pens should be cleaned regularly. Feeding and drinking equipment should also be cleaned regularly. Regularly dipping or spraying animals is necessary in order to destroy ectoparasites.
