1. What do you understand by the term petroleum?

Answer: Petroleum means rock oil. It consists of natural gas and crude oil.

 

2. Differentiate between crude oil and natural gas.

Answer:  Natural gas contains methane gas and hydrocarbon gas. It can be used domestically for cooking. It is colourless, odourless and non-toxic while crude oil is a dark brown viscous liquid with an unpleasant odour.

 

3. What is the major impurity in crude oil?

Answer: Sulphur.
