The majority of the known elements are metals. These metals are widely distributed in the earth’s crusts as either free elements or in combination with other elements, depending on the reactivity of the metal. For example, Na and K are found as chlorides or trioxocarbonate (IV). Gold, silver, and platinum, because they are non-reactive, are found free in nature.
