National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria was established in 1969 by the government to check the insurance companies. After the establishment, NICON was the leading insurance company and was owned by the Federal government, later in 1977 Nigeria’s Reinsurance corporation was established. NICON was established to control regulate the operators of insurance businesses in the country.
