In 1934, the Lagos Youth Movement (LYM) was founded by students and graduates of King’s College, Lagos to express their sheer displeasure with government educational policy. The students included J.C. Vaughn, Ernest Ikoli, H.O. Davies, and Samuel Akinsanya.
They were displeased with the treatment meted out to graduates of Yaba Higher College and also demanded that scholarships should be given to Nigerian Students who deserved to study in the United Kingdom (UK). In 1936, The movement changed its name to the Nigerian Youth Movement.
