Northern People’s Congress (NPC) like the Action Group, evolved from a cultural Organization known as Jamiyaar Mutanem Arewa., founded in December 1949. The North People Congress (NPC) was dominated by the Hausa/Fulanis and it promoted Northern interests.

It attracted the support of Emirs in the North. Northern People’s Congress (NPC) was deeply rooted in Islamic injunctions. The Party leader was the Late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Saraduna of Sokoto. The motto of the party was “One North, One People”.

Objectives of the Northern People’s Congress (NPC):

  • To inculcate party discipline and loyalty in NPC members.   
  • To promote better understanding and cooperation between members of the Party and the Northern community in general.
