Causes of the Kano Riot:
- One of the causes of the crisis was the disagreement over the motion for self-government for Nigeria by 1956.
- Secondly, was the booing and jeering of Northern leaders in Lagos, by Lagos mobs, after the House went on recess.
- Thirdly, was the tour of the Northern region by Action Group delegates led by chief Samuel Akintola. The North viewed it as an invasion of another man’s territory.
On April 1, 1953; the motion for self-government for Nigeria in 1956 was moved by Anthony Enahoro of Action Group in the Federal House of Representatives.
