Example

Calculate the frequency of the photons whose energy is required to eject surface electron with a k.e of 3.8 x 10-17eV and the work function of the metal is 2.66 x 10-17eV.

E = hf – hf0

Hf = E + hf0

f = \( \frac{E + hf_0}{H} \)

f = \( \frac{3.80 \times 10^{-17} + 2.66 \times 10 {-17}}{6.6 \times 10 {-34}} \)

f = \( \frac{6.46 \times 10^{-17} + 1.6 \times 10 {-19}}{6.6 \times 10 {-34}} \)

= 2.42 x 1014Hz
