joule

Joule is the SI (International System of Units) unit of energy and work. It is equal to the amount of work done when a force of 1 newton displaces a mass through a distance of 1 metre in the direction of the force applied.

Formula:

Work done = Force applied × Distance travelled in the direction of the force
Work done (W) = Force (F) × Distance (D)
W = F × D

work, W is measured in joules (J)
force, F is measured in Newtons (N)
distance, D is measured in metres (m)
